Rama Jyoti Vernon became interested in metaphysics and mysticism as a child. Ultimately, Rama became one of America's first Yoga teachers. She co-founded Yoga Journal in the early 1970s and her vision led to the creation of the California Yoga Teachers' Association. During this period, Rama introduced B.K.S. Iyengar to the U.S.
Rama was instrumental in developing organizations such as Unity in Yoga, to unite all lineages of Yoga, and founded the Center for International Dialogue. As a housewife, mother and Yoga teacher, Rama began applying Yoga philosophy in entirely new arenas: international peacemaking, initiating solutions for political, economic, ecological, humanitarian, and cultural conflicts.
Rama's warm manner and open nature, sharing personal anecdotes about her life, make students feel they know and like her as a friend. Her legacy of Asana training and deep integration of the Yoga Sutras is carried on by her longtime students.
