Yoga in Costa Rica
with Suddha Weixler
November 10 - 17, 2012

Costa Rica is known for its beauty and ecological tourism, and as a country whose values reflect ideals of world peace, environmental preservation, excellent education, and a high standard of health care. Unique in Central America, Costa Rica has had the longest uninterrupted democracy; with no standing army in more than fifty years; and has preserved the largest percentage of rain forest per capita in the world.

Blue Spirit Retreat provides an exceptional, environmentally sustainable setting for spiritual transformation and personal development. Perched on a peninsula overlooking the Pacific Ocean and a three-mile long white sand beach that is protected as a turtle refuge, the retreat offers an extraordinarily beautiful natural setting, fostering an unforgettable and deeply nurturing experience. Located in Nosara on the northwest coast, the location is remote yet accessible, a two-hour drive from the Liberia International Airport. The region is renowned for its spectacular scenery, excellent restaurants, local cultural events, and an international community that creates a vibrant and peaceful atmosphere.
Guests stay in cozy Hermitage rooms (partial ocean or mountain views) which provide privacy and elegance with a private bathroom. Eco Cottages are simple and beautifully situated in lush vegetation, allowing for a sensual experience in touch with nature, and sharing a common bathhouse. The yoga studio sits amidst nature, built with a sustainably harvested wooden floor; it is fully equipped with yoga mats and props.
Life around Blue Spirit focuses on the fantastic beaches. There are ideal surfing conditions and surfing lessons are available. Horseback riding along the beach, deep-water fishing, canopy tours, cave expeditions, and river kayaking can be arranged. Visit the Ostional turtle refuge, and join a tranquil bird watching tour. And, of course, there are miles upon miles of soft, white sand for long walks and gorgeous sunsets. November belongs to the dry season, with sunny, clear skies and average temperature around 80F. Suddha began studying yoga in 1978 on his first visit to India. He spent eight years in a monastic environment under the guidance of his Guru. He was certified in 1984 and is the Director of the Chicago Yoga Center. Initiated into Raja Yoga and Meditation in 1982 by Swami Narayanananda, Suddha's training includes classical Hatha, the Iyengar method, and Ashtanga Yoga with K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, South India, annually from 1995-1998. He is a student of Srivatsa Ramaswami of Chennai, and has been introduced into the Vinyasa Krama method of Sri T. Krishnamacharya. Suddha has been an Adjunct Associate Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago since 1989. Suddha's teaching style is precise, attentive, and integrating. Students will work at their capacity.

The workshop includes morning sitting meditation; morning asana will be deep and therapeutic, blending essential aspects of Iyengar, Ashtanga, and Viniyoga traditions, and incorporating Anusara and Yin Yoga. Afternoon practice will include creative and dynamic Vinyasa sequences. Emphasis is on integration of physical, mental, energetic, and spiritual faculties.
